Frequently Asked Questions About Dogs
|

|
Q: Were any PAWS Premium pet foods part of the Menu Foods recall?
A: Some PAWS Premiun pet foods were affected by the Menu Foods Recall. Previously recalled PAWS Premiun pet food is again available for purchase beginning July 2007. The new product on the shelf has been Quality Assurance tested, approved and considered safe for your pet's |
consumption. Look for "QA OK" on the container of previously recalled items. PAWS Premium product not identified in the recall will not have this QA OK desgnation as they have been and continue to be safe for your pets. PAWS Premium remains committed to providing quality product for your animal companions. For a complete list of previously recalled products, please visit www.menufoods.com or www.fda.gov.
Q. What's the difference between PAWS Premium™ and PAWS Professional® dog food?
A. PAWS Premium™ dog food is an affordable alternative to the big name brand products, but just as nutritional for your pets. Available not only in dry bagged foods but canned items, cat litter, rawhide bones and treats
too. We really try to focus on the fact that we understand that your pet is truly a member of your family -- and besides, don't we always tend to choose a pet that looks like us (or is it the other way around?).
PAWS Professional® dog food is just as nutritional, but also incorporates diets that pet owners expect to pay a fortune for. Typically, these formulas were only available to breeders, veterinarians and for performance/sport
dogs. However, we've worked with our retail partners to bring you these vet recommended dry formulas at a price you can digest!
Q. How do I know how much to feed my dog?
A. Do not feed your dog more PAWS Premium™ dog food than it will consume in a 30-minute period to ensure product freshness. If fed dry, food may be kept before puppies at all times. After one year of age, follow adult feeding
instructions.
Q. When can I begin feeding my puppy solid food?
A. Puppies begin to eat solid food at 3-4 weeks of age. You should add warm water to soften the food and after 8 weeks, mix with water or feed dry.
Q. I switched dog food and now my dog isn't eating much. Doesn't he like it?
A. Changes in your pet's feeding habits should be made gradually. When changing over to PAWS Premium™ dog food, first substitute small amounts of PAWS Premium™ in place of your pet's current food. Then over the next week to 10 days, increase
the amount of PAWS Premium™, while decreasing amounts of his other food, until your pet has 100% PAWS Premium™ dog food.
Q. What should I feed my pregnant dog during pregnancy and nursing?
A. PAWS Premium™ Dog Food provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females in stages of gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's good body
condition. Food intake may double or even quadruple during lactation.
Q. How many biscuits can I feed my dog each day?
A. Feed dog biscuits to your pet every day as part of your dog's regular diet. Dog biscuits can be fed as a snack between meals or as a reward during training. Feed small dogs (under 25 lbs.) 2 to 3
biscuits daily; medium size dogs (25 to 50 lbs.) 3 to 5 biscuits daily; and large dogs (over 50 lbs.) 5 to 8 biscuits daily.
Q. How do I decide which food to feed my dog?
A. First, you need to identify if your pal has any special dietary needs or is in a special age group (puppy or senior). If none of these apply, then it is highly recommended to feed adult dog food that is consistent with your
pal's previous diet habits: Bites and Bones (dry food with softer morsels), Gravy (served with water to create a gravy covering the dry food), or simplistic -- like PAWS Premium™ Hi-Pro formula for working dogs. At any rate, all
PAWS Premium™ formulas provide your dog with the best diet and well balanced nutrition.
Q. What is proper storage of dry and canned products?
A. Store your pet's food just as you would store your own foods in your pantry. It's acceptable to store dog food in the garage or basement -- just make sure that the bag is off the floor and away from direct moisture.
Q. Will my dog be bored eating the same food all the time?
A. Animals are truly creatures of habit and don't have diet preferences like you or me. Just because something smells good (like table food) doesn't mean that the food is good for your dog or his/her digestive system.
Q. How can I care for my dog's teeth?
A. Your dog's veterinarian is the best person to ask. There are many products available to care for teeth and control tartar and your vet will know what's best for your pal. Your dog's vet will guide
you on the correct care and maintenance for your dog's teeth.
Q. Can diet help skin and coat?
A. Yes! A well balanced nutritional diet can help your dog's coat shine and maintain great skin -- especially when weather changes. A regular diet of PAWS Premium™ will keep your pal looking his/her best.
Q. How do I choose the right pet for my family?
A. We highly recommend checking with your local animal shelter for the perfect addition to your family. You can also ask your pediatrician or contact a local veterinarian for a recommendation.
The ages and temperaments of both dogs and children need to be considered -- as well as yard size, amount of exercise, and aptitude for those ever important listening skills.
